What I Learned (and Earned) from Hosting Paint-a-Pot Workshops
Hey there! Have you ever thought about hosting a Paint-a-Pot Workshop?
Whether you’re looking for a fun way to gather friends, add a new workshop to your business, or just explore your creative side, this workshop has been a total game-changer for me. It’s easy to run, super engaging, and, honestly, one of the most profitable workshops I’ve ever hosted.
Hosting a Paint-a-Pot Workshop isn’t just about painting—it’s about creating a space where people can unwind, connect, and explore their creativity. There’s something magical about watching a group of people start with blank pots and end up with vibrant, personal works of art. Whether it’s a fun night out with friends, a family activity, or a team-building event, these workshops leave everyone feeling accomplished and inspired.
And the best part? 👉 It’s not just a rewarding experience—it can also be a highly profitable venture with minimal setup!
WHAT MAKES A PAINT-A-POT WORKSHOP SO SPECIAL?
Let me tell you, these workshops are about so much more than just painting. It’s not about being a great artist—it's about having fun and letting your creativity flow. Every time I host one, people surprise themselves with how much they enjoy it.
This workshop is perfect for:
Friends looking for a laid-back, creative night out.
Families who want a fun way to bond with their kids.
Teams who need a break from Zoom calls and want to do something hands-on.
You don't have to be an expert. In fact, some of my favorite pots have come from first-timers just experimenting with colors and patterns. And the best part? Everyone leaves with a unique pot they can proudly display at home or in their garden.
THE MONEY BEHIND THE MAGIC: HOW I MUCH REVENUE & PROFIT HAVE I MADE FROM PAINT-A-POT WORKSHOPS
Okay, let’s talk numbers. Hosting a Paint-a-Pot Workshop has been one of the most rewarding and profitable events I’ve run.
In just 7 months, (at the time of writing, as I started these sessions in April 2024) I’ve generated almost $7,000 ($6,720 to be exact) from these workshops alone. Now that that’s not my bestselling workshop, but it is the one that I have the biggest margin on!
Here’s the breakdown:
Ticket Sales: $6,720 (at an average of $55 per participant across multiple sessions)
Materials (pots, paints, brushes, sealant, pens): $950
Venue Rental: $400
Marketing (social media ads): $400
TOTAL EXPENSES = $1,750
TOTAL REVENUE = $4,970
That’s a 74% of profit margin*! And the best thing is, I don’t have to buy all the materials every time. Most paints and pens are re-used in several workshops, so I only need to top-up the most used ones when needed. Which means, the workshops become more and more profitable as I run them.
(*note: this profit margin doesn’t account with labour, as some of these sessions were run by myself and some were run by my helper).
The setup costs for paint a pot sessions are minimal! Terracotta pots and acrylic paints are affordable, and you can reuse brushes and other tools. Plus, participants love it so much that they often bring friends to the next one, so it’s grown through word-of-mouth, and I’ve had people book more than once and this is why my cost of advertising for this one is so low! (Repeat customers is what you should aim for in any business!!).
READY TO HOST YOUR OWN PAINT-A-POT WORKSHOP?
The great thing about Paint-a-Pot workshops is how simple they are to organize. You don’t need a ton of experience or fancy materials—just pots, paint, brushes, and a little creativity.
Here’s what I love about running these workshops:
Minimal Setup: You can get everything you need at a local craft store.
High Engagement: Participants love customizing their pots and sharing their creations.
Endless Possibilities: Each workshop can be different with seasonal themes, new designs, or add-ons like extra pots or small plants.
If you’re wondering about logistics, I’ve put together a Done-For-You Paint-a-Pot Workshop Plan. It’s got:
A step-by-step structure to run your session smoothly.
Materials and setup recommendations.
Social media templates to help promote your event.
With this plan, you can focus on having fun and making connections while the prep work is all taken care of.
If you’ve been thinking about running a workshop, a Paint-a-Pot session is a great place to start. It’s easy, fun, and offers plenty of room for creativity. Plus, it’s a great way to build community and grow your business.
BONUS TIPS FOR A GREAT WORKSHOP
Play Background Music: Set the mood with some chill tunes.
Offer Light Snacks and Drinks: People love a snack break while their pots dry! (I personally offer people to bring their own drinks when the venue allows me to do that!)
Capture the Moments: Take photos throughout the workshop to share on social media—and don’t forget the group photo at the end!
If you’re been wandering which workshop concept to give a go, I highly recommend you start with this one! Not only is super affordable to get started with this type of workshop, the concept has been tried-and-tested by multiple crafters PLUS you’ll love seeing how each person’s creativity comes to life.
There’s something really special about knowing you’ve helped them create something they’ll cherish. 💖
